A New Age Concept
I'm going to catch a lot of flak for this but...
I think it is entirely possible to replace the monk as the primary defensive unit of the team without using wards.
This is just a concept, but I want to get some community feedback about it before I flesh it out.
Instead of monks, I use 1 Rt/Me spirit spammer, 1 Me/Rt weapons spell spammer and one Mo/E for spot heals, hex removal and wards.
Wierd huh? Especially the monk. But with Shelter + Union + Displacement + Soothing, damage is limited to around 30 per hit max, and it has to bite through Displacement. This combined with Soothing is pretty bad for IWAY or any warriors. Mantra of Resolve is must though.
So in the end, there is little to spot heal, and it can be done very efficiently as there is only one healer and damage is taken in small predictable increments. Fast casting weapons spell spammer takes the prot and buff role, as well as Flesh of My Flesh to become the all time fastest hard rezzor!
In this way, we allow for the use of our favorite spirit of all time that divides build, breaks teams and pisses off little Boon Proters, NR! It's going to hurt the spirit spammer a bit cause Boon of Creation will become a 4 sec cast... but MoR
So is this feasible as a defensive arm of a HA group that uses NR? The NR ranger can also do traps, add in 4 warriors and voila, IWAY Factions style!

Yup it's been done already, like sonoma said. If I remember rightly EW even had one of their ritualists join in on spikes.

Okay so I don't watch GW TV, but it's nice to know that I'm thinking along the same lines as top build designers.
So how did it work out for them?
Actually I was also thinking that a nice offensive expansion would be to use Earthbind + Brambles + Lacerate and use 2 gank groups.
Gank Group 1 (for kiling softies):
Hammer warrior + Earth and Air Elementalist (stoning to add to KD)
Gank Group 2 (for killing hardknocks):
Assassin (with Shove) + Necromancer using Virulence
What do you all think?
